Petaloid is one of the only large-scale sculptures ever created by Adolph Gottlieb.

In 1950, Kootz Gallery invites three of their represented artists, Adolph Gottlieb among them, to select three works each by then-unknown artists for the exhibition, “Fifteen Unknowns: Selected by Artists of the Kootz Gallery.”
