Foundation Highlight: Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Individual Support Grant
The Individual Support Grant is offered annually to painters, printmakers, and sculptors who have been creating mature art for at least 20 years and who have a current financial need. And it's that season again: the Individual Support Grant application is now open for submissions. For this newsletter, we are taking a look back at some letters from past grant recipients. Here's what they have said about the effect receiving this grant has had on their lives:
“I am overjoyed and excited by the possibilities and freedom this grant allows me.”
“Beyond the check, there is the recognition of my lifetime artistic work. This is a huge honor!”
“These funds have allowed me to greatly increase the time I am able to focus on my work – and – on the process of its making. I was able to dig deeper into the why and how I make the paintings I make. Also, I was able to increase my understanding, through both actual research and just quiet time in the studio, of the concepts from which I build my work. With deep thanks for this opportunity you have given me.”
“Just today I have received your letter informing me that I have been selected to receive an Individual Support Grant from the Gottlieb Foundation. Needless to say, I am still shaking as I write this with tears in my eyes and a grateful heart. … For now, I want to say, in addition, to my profound thanks, that I hope you have at least glimpses into the change your Foundation grants make in the lives of the artist recipients--and then as well in the lives of those who are touched by the work we produce under the financial sponsorship of the Foundation. Receiving the grant is more than a dream come true.”
